It’s been a while since I’ve done a garden update so let’s get started on the successes and fails! Yes, I’m proud of my fails because it tells me to try harder. Let’s go!
Fails.
It’s only fair to highlight the fails before the successes. I’m doing this to show even the ‘I’ve never picked up a tool in my life’ folks that gardening is not something you just plant, water a little, and you have your own version of FarmVille. Lots of patience, and sometimes, things will just be bad beyond your control.
Red Bell Pepper:
So, I finally got my red bell pepper! She was sunburned just a tad but we figured, she could still be edible. I washed her off, cut her open and well, found a guest:
Yeah, a slug.
Clearly, we didn’t eat it and well, I hope she enjoyed the bell pepper.
Strawberry:
We actually had a couple of strawberries from before but the bugs ate them! So, we grew some more and well…
She came off pretty. That little brown thing at the bottom is just soil. However, the strawberry wasn’t sweet. It was actually super tart. Maybe I plucked it too early or maybe it was the soil. We’re still experimenting.
Gerbera Daisies
This was a case of too much sun. Way too much sun. Notice how the sign says part sun? Well, I clearly didn’t adhere to that. I learned my lesson that I would need plants that require full sun or start paying more attention to where I place certain plants.
Now that we went over my fails, let’s celebrate my successes!
Successes
Lavender and rosemary
This bush has grown super fast! I’m still not sure what I plan to do with the plant, though I had an idea of using the lavender and rosemary to burn.
Tomato:
I still don’t have any tomatoes! I’m not sure what’s going on. My plant is super huge now and is actually growing outside of the cage we just bought! I hope to get some tomatoes soon!
Sunflower
I officially have three sunflowers! I’m going to cut them this weekend and put them in a vase to enjoy inside.
Yellow Bell Peppers
My yellow bell peppers seem to fare better than the red one. No sunburn here. I hope to cut them soon, probably over the weekend!
Calendulas
My calendulas are growing pretty well! These seeds do require a lot of sun so I think that’s where I’m being successful the most with – plants that require a lot of sun. I don’t think I’ll eat these, but I do want to pluck them and put them in a vase.
Succulents:
Watering them has helped a lot but also purchasing the succulent plant food. Aren’t they so pretty? I really love them.
Grass:
This is a new project for me. I purchased grass seed that’s also drought resistant to grow the grass. Our yard didn’t look bad before but it could look better, you know? I will post updates on this.
Orange Tree
I think out of all of my successes, I’m very proud of the orange tree. It had no buds whatsoever when we first moved in. Some water, plant food, and a lot of attention really made it grow. I’m super proud of it. I can’t wait to taste the oranges!
So, that’s it for a garden update! If you have a garden, how’s it going? Do you have any tips for me?
